Dubai, May 7 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will give subsidized fuel to its fishermen.

The measure will be implemented by the environment ministry in collaboration with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Humanitarian and Charitable Works and Dubai Islamic Bank.

The move comes as part of the ministry’s efforts to regulate fishing and develop fisheries and marine resources.

‘Fisheries come among the key elements in efforts to achieve self-sufficiency. The UAE has a long shoreline stretching along the (Indian) ocean and the Gulf, hence a unique opportunity to tap its vast marine resources,’ Environment Minister Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd said Thursday.
