Los Angeles, March 8 (IANS) Geoffrey Fletcher won the best adapted screenplay Oscar for ‘Precious’, based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, at the 82nd Academy Awards.

Set in Harlem, New York City, ‘Precious’ is a heart-wrenching tale of an overweight, illiterate teenage girl who is pregnant with her second child. She joins an alternative school in the hope that her life can head in a new direction. But everything falls apart when she learns she is infected with HIV-AIDS.
