Jammu, May 6 (IANS) Pakistani troops Thursday opened fire on an Indian army post in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, violating the ongoing ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) for the second time in less than a week.

According to army sources, Pakistani troops opened fire at Balnoi (no. 68) post in Mendhar sector in the district, about 210 km north of Jammu. Indian troops also retaliated. The exchange of fire went on for about 30 minutes before the guns fell silent on both sides.

There was no report of any casualty.

Pakistani troops opened fire on Indian posts in Mendhar sector last Saturday also, injuring a Border Security Force (BSF) trooper critically.

Later, the Indian Army had lodged a very strong protest with the Pakistani Army and asked it to desist from hostile action.
