Indian women’s team enter Asian Squash semis

Chennai, May 5 (IANS) India booked a semi-final berth in the women’s team events by winning both their matches in the Asian squash championship here Wednesday.

The Indian combination of Joshna Chinappa, Dipika Pallikal and Alaka Alankamony, defeated Sri Lanka and Japan in Group B quite comfortably to advance to the semi-finals.

Also progressing to the semis from Group B were Hong Kong who too won both their matches and face India on the morrow to decide for the positions.

In the other group, Korea and defending champions Malaysia won their opening fixture against Japan and will play each other tomorrow to decide the group topper.

Meanwhile, Indian men’s team, comprising Saurav Ghosal, Harinderpal Singh Sandhu and Ritwik Bhattacharya, brushed aside Japan 3-0 in the men’s section and face China tomorrow in the three-team Group C. Japan have won one and lost their other outing.
